The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the Tarot

The Cosmic Faery Tarot Deck

The end of 2020 is in sight, but before we can turn our backs on this most crazy year ever, the upcoming Solstice is accompanied by a major astrological event – the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius.

This event last occurred in 1623, a time when migration to the Americas took off as wars were raging in Europe.

What will this Great Conjunction have in store for us?

The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the Tarot offers visual guidance of the direction humanity is taking over the coming years.

In tarot terms, we are looking at the Wheel of Fortune (Jupiter) combining forces with The World (Saturn) guided by The Star (Aquarius). On a global scale, this is a game changer.

Progress and innovation during the 21st century will accelerate especially in the areas of science, medicine and technology, mainly due to climate catastrophes and more pandemics to come.

Necessity is the mother of invention, and the current pandemic was the wakeup call the world needed to speed up responses to the challenges awaiting us.

Aquarius – an air sign of logic, intellect and reason – will teach us that conspiracy theories are mere deflections from the real issues that need to be tackled.

The King of Swords is unlikely to be sucked into the twilight zone rabbit hole by a dodgy YouTube video or condescending meme on social media.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t question and call out what is wrong in the world. Critical thinking is definitely high up on the agenda, and not putting up with BS any longer.

What really counts are facts, such as social injustice, corruption in politics, polarisation of communities (in order to divide and conquer) and the ongoing destruction of our planet.

But thanks to The Star there are glimmers of hope. New movements, innovations, and radical mindshifts are all part of evolution and the rebirthing of humanity.

And it all starts with each one of us on a personal level, continuing to shed the old and outdated to grow and evolve.

We all have to realise that active participation in creating our future is our only option, if we want to survive and thrive. Dystopian or utopian…it’s our choice.

All this awaits us in 2021, the year of The Hierophant, and beyond. It’s exciting, but we need to stand firm and persevere when sometimes our journey can feel exhausting.

You will need all your energy to step up and move forward, and for that purpose I have created the Energy Tarot Spread, a tarot wellness exploration for nourishing and maintaining your inner power.

While you are on my Patreon page benefitting from this spread, please consider joining a membership tier to support my work and in return receive monthly printable tarot resources, guidance and more.

The Saturn Retrograde Tarot Spread

saturn retrograde tarot spreadA few weeks ago, Saturn turned retrograde and will continue until the 18th September.

Plenty of time to explore and work with its energies using the Saturn retrograde tarot spread below.

Before you do, take a moment to consider what the World reversed as an energy card in a reading means to you.

In the Tarot, Saturn is linked to the World, so its retrograde energy can be compared with that of the World reversed.

In its upright position, the World suggests achievement, establishment, a sense of having arrived and be content with where you are.

Reversed, you may feel a little stifled; something is missing, and you have the urge to escape the status quo.

The World is about restrictions and boundaries, but not in a negative sense. You feel happy with where your are despite limitations.

However, reversed, you may feel less positive.

Saturn is also the ruler of Capricorn, and coincidentally, Saturn has turned retrograde in Capricorn and will also turn direct again in Capricorn.

Capricorn in the Major Arcana is linked to the Devil, so we can sense dull routines and a lack of growth.

Saturn is also linked to the following cards in the Tarot:

  • Five of Wands
  • Ten of Wands
  • Eight of Cups
  • Three of Swords
  • Seven of Pentacles

Based on these cards, I have created the following spread that can help you make the most of the World/Saturn retrograde energies:

  1. Where in my life do I feel confined or restricted?
  2. What stops me from growing/evolving?
  3. How can I free myself from limitations?
  4. What past hurt is still affecting me and needs healing?
  5. Where do I need to change?
  6. How can I enhance my relationships (family, work)?
  7. What am I holding on to that keeps me secure?
  8. Where do I need to take a risk?

Saturn retrograde is a good time to evaluate your goals, plans, projects and ideas (Seven of Pentacles!).

For example, if you are writing a book, do some editing before you continue.

In your home, you may realise that some repairs or redecorating are required. You may even consider a move as you feel you’ve outgrown your space.

Workwise, you may find it hard to generate the energy to push for a promotion or change of job.

In relationships, beware of the rut! Choose your words and actions carefully to avoid misunderstandings, and remember to have some fun and just dance, dance, dance 😉

Tarot Astrology: Saturn in the Tarot

saturn in the tarotAfter Jupiter, the next stop in the line of ancient planets is Saturn.

In astrology, this planet is associated with hardship, discipline and limitations, the latter being reflected in the famous rings composed of rocks and ice surrounding it.

Saturn is named after the Roman god of agriculture, who was also in charge of conformity, social order and creating civilisations.

Saturn is ruler of Capricorn, hence the presence of the Devil amongst the Saturn cards.

Saturn’s prime attribution in the Major Arcana is to the World. In the Rider Waite deck, we see the wreath around the figure, which we can link to Saturn’s rings.

Although the World is a card of completion, achievement and self-realisation, the Saturn energy also suggests boundaries and limitations.

Additional meanings of the World derived from Saturn: the end of the line; as good as it gets; the need for self-regulation; maintaining of what has been achieved.

Saturn reflects our innate desire for structure and order, and in the Devil its energy is reflected in a hard-working nature, which can easily descend into slaving along in dull routines, narrow-mindedness and lack of growth.

In astrology, Saturn is regarded as the greater malefic, which means it can indicate negative energy such as hardship and sadness.

Saturn in the tarot is linked to the following pip cards:

  • Five of Wands (Saturn in Leo)
  • Ten of Wands (Saturn in Sagittarius)
  • Eight of Cups (Saturn in Pisces)
  • Three of Swords (Saturn in Libra)
  • Seven of Pentacles (Saturn in Taurus)

How does Saturn influence the card meanings? Here are some suggestions:

Five of Wands – quarrels and misunderstanding due to narrow-mindedness; everyone is just focused on their own agenda. No discipline; rules not adhered to; lack of progress; a dull routine interrupted, pushing boundaries

Ten of Wands – awareness of self-limitations; bogged down; carrying the World on your shoulders; discipline and self-reliance creates suffering; sense of duty

Eight of Cups – leaving something behind that offered no more growth; having outgrown a situation; leaving the comfort zone; looking for something more unconventional; walking away from responsibility

Three of Swords – sadness, melancholy, emotional endurance, cold-heartedness; a painful lesson learned; having lost something comfortable or secure; being restricted by grief; absorbed by loss, not seeing a way out; stuck in a gloomy world

Seven of Pentacles – new growth outside the comfort zone; sowing new seeds; perseverance; hard work paid off; hesitating about taking a risk; security is important; frustrated about limited success

These are just a few ideas how Saturn influences the meanings of these cards. You are welcome to share yours in the comment box below.

You can also try this exercise:

Pick out all the Saturn cards from your deck. Which of the pip cards would you relate to which Major Arcana card?

Take into account visual clues as well as similar meanings. For example, I see the Ten of Wands linked to the Devil, and the Seven of Pentacles to the World.

But you may have different ideas. How do you see the Saturn cards connected with each other? Post your ideas in the comment box below.

For this exercise I have created journaling sheets, which you can download from my Tarot Astrology online course page.

Warmest wishes,

Christiane
