The Elfin Magical Diary |
|
Now that the autumn season is upon us, you may be thinking about choosing your diary for the new year. Perhaps you have been using one from the Llewellyn range over the last couple of years, such as the Witches’ Datebook, the Magical or the Herbal Almanac, all of which will without doubt have provided useful and practical information (including space for your appointments and diary entries!).
There is a major drawback with these diaries though: all astrological and timing information provided is US based, so they are of no use for all of us living in the UK. If your Tarot and magical work depends on Astrology, you may want to consider leaving the Llewellyn diaries to the American market and try something new today!
The Elfin Diary is British, different and unique. First published in 1990 by Caroline Heaney, it has grown in popularity mainly through word-of-mouth.
Apart form the usual calendar features (seven-day week over two pages), the Elfin diary contains a wealth of astrological information, articles and an A-Z psychic guide. Amongst the astrological information you will find:
· moon phases · planetary aspects · magical hours · the planets, their attributes, symbols and correspondences a glossary and an astrological guide
Articles include insightful information on history, aromatherapy (with practical recipes for oil mixtures), spells and crystals.
The calendar features daily lunar aspects as well as moon signs and phases. Each month starts with a detailed description of the night sky, including information on when and where you can see the planets in the sky.
There is lots more to discover in the Elfin diary; this space is too small to fit it all in. Amazing really, because the diary only measures 10.5 x 14.5 cm. The pocket diary as described is available in a softback and a luxurious hardback edition, both spiralbound. Please note though that if you are a very busy person with lots of daily appointments, then the space provided for each day may not be big enough. But an A5 version and A3 wall calendar are also available, both containing all astrological information but not the articles. The A3 calendar is printed on green mottled paper, a month a page, with sufficient writing space for each day.

Overall, the Elfin diary is not just a little book to jot down your appointments; it is also an interesting, entertaining and an enlightening read. Its presentation is simple and honest rather than glossy. It has Egyptian and Medieval style b/w illustrations throughout. Every year the diary comes with a free gift, and this year a free pendant will be included, which can also be used as a key fob. Caroline only has a limited amount of them, so first come first served. Why not treat yourself to a different kind of diary and tell your friends? There is a quantity discount, if you order three or more...
